House details

Seascape is a chalet bungalow situated at the East end of Cley village on an elevated site with uninterrupted views over the NNT nature reserve to the North and East and over the Glaven Estuary to Blakeney Point in the West. Since 1970, when it was built, the house has been a holiday home for the present family who generally use it during school holidays. However, limited lets during school term have become possible. The house is comfortable but not luxuriously furnished as it is a family home. Some of the family clothes and other belongings are kept there and guests are asked to respect the nature of the house.

The House

The house is built on two floors. Downstairs are the kitchen, a single bedroom, a cloakroom WC with hand basin, and an L-shaped dining area/sitting room. The latter has a picture window along its full-length overlooking fields, reed beds and the sea. When feeding young, a bittern is often seen regularly in flight and in 1998 it nested within 400 yards of the house. There is always some activity of interest to be seen, Brent geese in the fields in winter, teal when pools of water are full, heron and other birds, and even the antics of cattle and their calves during summer. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with a King size double bed, a smaller bedroom with a double-bed, a small bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom/WC with over bath shower.

The address of the house is:

Amenities

The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. There is a microwave and instructions can be found by clicking here. The sitting room has a colour TV with freeview plus DVD player.

Heating system

The house is double glazed. Water is heated with an immersion heater which is on a timer and does not normally need adjusting. There is an electric storage heater on the upstairs landing.

Gas from 2 pairs of cylinders by the garage supplies central heating. Controls for this are in the kitchen. As the gas cylinders run out quite quickly, we normally use the storage heater and log burner, adding the central heating on auto if cold weather. We do ask all guests who are using (or hoping to use!) the central heating to check the gauge on the cylinders at the start and the end of their stay. If one of the pairs is empty and the gauge is solid red then we need to be informed so that we can order replacements before they both run out…..

In the living area there is a log burner, wood being provided along with wood for kindling. Wood is available in the new log store by the garage and spare kindling is under the stairs. The fire lights easily with a single firelighter and 4-5 bits of kindling prior to adding logs. The log burner instructions suggest keeping the door open (but observed) for a few minutes until the fire is established, then closing the door. The air inlet under the fire is “open” when moved to the right, allowing more air and a faster burn, or closed to the left, burning the logs more slowly with a cooler temperature.

Linen

Guests are asked to bring sheets, duvet covers, towels and tea cloths. A selection of duvets, blankets and pillows is available. Duvets for the double and king sized beds are under the relevant beds. Spare duvets for the single beds are in the downstairs bedroom cupboard, along with spare pillows. A selection of blankets and undersheets are in the airing cupboard in the main bedroom.

Garden and Parking

Behind the house on the South side there is a paved patio for which seats and a sun shade are available. An enclosed garden rises on a slope to the South from the patio. There is parking space for two cars off the road. Guests are requested not to use any of the family possessions in the garage without prior agreement.
